Full-Time JM17457 – Consultant in Acute Stroke / General Internal Medicine
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated colleague to join our friendly and dynamic departments of Acute Stroke and General Medicine. NHS Grampian provides healthcare services to approximately 573,400 people living in Grampian and to 44,700 people living in Orkney and Shetland. The Stroke Service is a friendly and dedicated team of 4 Consultants and 1 Specialty Doctor providing a comprehensive service for Acute Stroke and TIA in the North of Scotland. We are shortly moving to a 22 bedded Acute Stroke Unit situated close to key allied services, and provide telemedicine support to Orkney, Western Isles, Highland and Moray. We have daily TIA clinics (Mon – Fri). Due to successful working with the Scottish Ambulance Service and the Emergency Department, we thrombolyse over 20% of admitted Stroke patients and are exploring delivery of clot retrieval therapy. There is excellent opportunity for service expansion particularly around open access TIA clinics, clinical and imaging research and telemedicine. General Medicine is mostly split between two wards – Ward 105 and Ward 110. Ward 105 is covered by Consultants from Diabetes and Endocrinology whereas Ward 110 is covered by Consultants from Infectious Diseases. Both wards take Acute Medical patients from A&E, Acute Medical Initial Assessment (AMIA) Unit and direct transfers from other hospitals (such as Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin, and community hospitals in Aberdeenshire). Moreover, patients can be stepped down to the wards from Medical High Dependency Unit (MHDU) and Intensive Care Unit. The philosophy of the service in General Medicine is that patients with complex diagnoses or diagnostic uncertainty who do not fall into a specific specialty and require medical attention would be admitted to one of the two wards. We strive to afford the best standard of care achievable. There is a committed team of Junior Medical staff, Nurses and Ancillary staff based on the wards. You must be innovative and keen to add to our drive of continuous improvement. Those not wishing to work full time will be equally welcomed. Jobs will be tailored to the individual’s needs and desires where possible. We are looking for someone with enthusiasm and dedication to help us provide the best possible service to patients.
